Busy with stuff

Today is going to be busy. I have some loose ends to tie up this morning in the office. Then, I have the honor of saying a few words at my great Aunt’s funeral. She was 90 years old and a beautiful person. It’s going to be one of those days that is tough, but good.

I also have a lot of studying left to do for tomorrow night’s Bible study. Our core group is starting a study of the book of Nehemiah tomorrow night. Please say a prayer for us.

A sobering thought

So, it’s 2008, and we are planting a church THIS YEAR! This thought is somewhat terrifying and yet very exciting. When I think about the adventure that awaits us in this new year I feel pumped. I also feel like I need to stay up all night planning, writing, reading and preparing. This ministry we affectionately call church planting is daunting, and yet I am not shrinking back in fear, but stepping forward with more boldness (and possibly a degree of stupidity).

I’m excited about what God is doing. I’m excited that our church is forming in it’s own unique way. I’m excited that even though the climb ahead often looks insurmountable, God will be there to do the impossible and will show Himself to be great.

2008 is going to be a great year, I hope you will stay tuned to see the crazy things that God is doing in our midst.

Christmas is a crazy time of year…

Sorry for not posting lately, it’s been kinda nuts. Here are some bullet point updates:

  • Our core group Bible study is going well, we had 9 people there last week.
  • The online prospectus site is up www.gatheringchurch.com
  • Right now I’m working on the brochure to go along with the website.
  • There is a distinct possibility that we will have a worship leader coming on board soon, please pray for this.
  • My family and I are doing great, just busy.
  • And that’s about it. I will post more later.

We have launched our online prospectus at www.gatheringchurch.com. If you have been wondering what this whole church planting thing is about, if you want to know more about Decatur, or if you want to see a smokin website, check it out…

and the name is…Gathering Church

We call ourselves Gathering Church because we want to continually remind each other and everyone that we meet that church is not something that we attend, but something that we are. Saying that we are a part of the Church is saying that we are a part of something that is alive, functioning with purpose and accomplishing the great mission that Jesus set before us.

When we come together for a small group Bible study, or for a larger worship time we recognize that we are nothing more (or less) than a gathering of Jesus’ Church that is scatter throughout the city. In coming together we form one body of believers that do life together and serve Jesus individually and corporately.

I am continually reminded that the Church is so much more than one meeting, or one service. The Church is a living representation of Jesus, serving our community as He enables us.
