About the Team

Adam J. Walker
Lead Pastor / Planter

Bio:

My name is Adam J. Walker and I am the Lead Pastor of Gathering Church. I have been in ministry for 9 years. My passion is to teach the Word of God in a way that impacts the lives of people and draws them near to Him. I am passionate about teaching about Jesus, discipling people to follow Jesus, and encouraging people to love their neighbor like Jesus.

I started in ministry while still in high school when some friends and I decided to start a Non-Profit corporation for the purpose of equipping ministries. The Company was called One Way, Inc. and while it was operating we held 2 youth rallies (one that featured Small Town Poets), ran a coffee house in downtown Atlanta near Georgia Tech, funded a homeless ministry in Little Five Points for 2 years, and facilitated a rock climbing / adventure rec ministry.

I graduated from Georgia Tech in the Spring of ‘03 and two weeks later had a privilege of holding a beautiful girls hand as we took vows for life. Two weeks after that we moved to Tennessee so that Jess could finish school. Two years later God called us back to our home, Atlanta, and He has been preparing us for, and leading us to church planting ever since.

We have 2 kids, Sara Kate and Ethan and they light up our world.

We are planting the church in Decatur because it is a great city full of families, young singles, and thousands of people that have never experienced the love of Jesus. For Jess this is really coming home because she grew up in the area and her great grandmother built a home in Decatur back in the early 1900’s. It’s an exciting time…

How God Called me to Mininstry:

Like many young people I was led to Christ and baptized at an early age. However, it was not long after my salvation that I began to live as though nothing ever happened. For the first three years of high school I lived for the world instead of living for God. Then one day a close friend, who was like a mother to me, got sick with a liver disease and needed a liver transplant. After many months passed and a lot of time visiting the hospital, the Lord spoke to me and told me that Debbie (my friend) would get her liver when I turned back to Him. I was still somewhat stubborn and continued to run from God, until the day that I went to visit Debbie as she was laying on her death bed. Seeing her there and knowing that she would die in a matter of days hit me like a ton of bricks and made me reevaluate my life. That night I got on my knees and asked God to forgive me for running from Him, to help me serve Him, and to give Debbie a liver transplant. The next morning I was awakened by a phone call with the news that Debbie was getting her new liver! After that God called me to ministry and allowed me to minister and touch the lives of young people, first through One Way, Inc. and then through church youth ministry. It is my passion and goal in life to touch the lives of people, to show them the power of Christ, and to give them hope and a future with Him.
